From Death to Life
by Nikita Hukov

Christ introduced Himself to me two years ago, and I accepted Him. A few months later, I became a missionary and now serve in Krakow, Poland, helping Ukrainian adults and children in different ways. I also serve as a translator.
I am extremely thankful to God that He has been using and guiding me. It was not always like that, though…
Before I accepted Him, my family had lost absolutely everything we had. It was because of the war that started two years ago in my homeland. We had to live underground for more than a month under constant shelling. Every day, I was seeing my own coffin in front of my eyes. I had accepted that I would die underground with my family from one of the rockets. Somehow, we survived and managed to escape.
Then, as anyone would, I started asking questions like, “Why?” “Why me and my family?” I just couldn’t let it go. “Why me?”
We came to Poland without knowing anyone, but God put a ton of amazing people in our lives who contributed to my turning to Him. I am a young believer now and might still not know the answer to the question “Why?” or many other questions. In fact, I feel like I often have more questions than answers on a daily basis! But I definitely have more peace about it. Because, “The Lord works out everything to its proper end—even the wicked for the day of disaster” (Proverbs 16:4). Just knowing and understanding that God has a plan for you is something incredibly powerful.
Jeremiah 29:11 says, “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
It’s hard to even imagine, isn’t it? The best thing we can try to do is “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight” (Proverbs 3:5-6). He is the one who can comfort you and help you in any circumstance. You just have to let Him.
