Our History
International Messengers (IM) began in the heart of Robert Rasmusson in 1980 and became a branch of Oak Hills Fellowship in Bemidji, Minnesota, four years later. The first Evangelistic English Learning Camps were held in Austria, Hong Kong, and Poland in 1985, and before long, they were being held in other Eastern European countries. By 1989, IM had become an independent, nonprofit mission organization. It moved its office to Clear Lake, Iowa, in 1992.
Throughout the 1990s, IM’s short-term mission programs included medical, nursing, and educational English camps. Their innovative approach addressed the scarcity of evangelical churches in Eastern Europe and led to the establishment of full-time staff and church planting efforts. Partnerships with other mission organizations further extended IM’s reach, although they eventually concentrated efforts on their core EELC programs.
The Seaside Missionary Training Center in Odessa, Ukraine, opened following Bob Rasmusson’s death in 2003. This era also marked a variety of ministry expansions including sports camps, discipleship camps, family English camps, and outreach programs for children and women at risk. The establishment of International Messengers Canada Society in 2007 further strengthened their global mission.
Today, IM operates worldwide with approximately 300 adults involved in various ministries. The organization remains committed to spreading the Gospel and eagerly awaits what God has in store for their future.
