Short Term Mission Trip Camps

How to Join IM Canada Short-Term Mission Trips

Begin your application process by reviewing our upcoming short-term mission trips and then completing the International Messengers Canada application form (Adult | Youth: Under 17).

Pray

Start preparing for your short-term mission trip through prayer. Invite God take you deeper in your faith journey. Confess known sin to Him and turn from it. If you’re feeling scared, tell Him about it and ask Him to help you identify the root cause. Ask God for the courage to move forward despite fear, to prepare your heart to work well with your teammates, and to prepare the hearts of those whom you will serve on the field. Develop a prayer support team by asking others to pray for you and giving them specific requests. Our training materials includes ideas for those requests.

Begin Raising Support

The concept of missionaries depending on the Lord and fellow believers for financial provision is biblical, so let others know about this ministry opportunity. Tell them what it costs and ask them if they’d like to participate by giving. Every gift is tax-deductible. Look for ways you can contribute to the expenses, too. Host a garage sale, for example. Provide a service for someone on a donation basis–people are usually generous when they know the money is going for a good cause. Present this opportunity to your church’s mission committee and ask if they can allot funds (better yet–see if they’d like to come, too!)

Attend a Training Session

IM provides training to help prepare you for the trip. You will receive information about when and where the training weekend will happen. Travel expenses to and from this weekend are your responsibility (unless it’s held by Zoom), but the cost of meals, materials, and accommodation have been factored into the cost of the ministry trip. At training, you will learn about how to approach ministry with a servant’s heart. You’ll also discover keys to effective cross-cultural communication, how to teach conversational English, how to facilitate the Bible reading time at camp, how to share your testimony through a translator, and more. Training generally begins on Friday evening and ends on Sunday after church.

Travel Arrangements

The IM office will book your flights keeping close communication with you to ensure every detail is correct. If you have personal travel points and want to use them, then you will be responsible to make your reservations. Our office can provide support with that. IM also arranges airport pick-up and ground transportation on the field.

National staff will assume responsibility for transporting you and the team from the destination airport to the camp venue.

Depending on the country, the venue may be a hotel located outside a city, perhaps in a touristy location. It will not be a 5-star accommodation because it needs to be affordable for the campers, but it will be adequate for your stay. Rooms usually have their own bathroom.

Upon arrival, you will be assigned a shared room. (The training weekend will provide more details about your in-country accommodation).

The camp typically begins a day or two after your arrival. This provides time to figure out how to make the best use of the facility for the camp’s purposes, and for last-minute preparations before the campers arrive.

Concluding your short-term assignment doesn’t mean an end to your involvement in mission!

Our prayer is that your experience will fuel your engagement in God’s mission, whether that means future service in Canada or overseas, becoming a financial partner, or mobilizing others to go and serve like you did.

We’re here to assist you as you explore the next steps in pursuing what God has for you. We want to help keep you connected to God’s work around the world.
